Izzy and Ed’s country wedding was a truly elegant affair and couldn’t have been more full of stunning personal details. It certainly helped that Izzy is a trained graphic designer with an eye for creating amazing stationary and created absolutely beautiful designs for their invitations, place cards and finishing touches (why not have a look at her website Isabel and Ink).
Starting with the dress (of course), choosing ‘the one’ was one of the first elements of the wedding planning checklist they ticked off. Izzy chose Stewart Parvin as her designer, as both her sisters before her had worn Stewart Parvin gowns for their weddings, and Izzy knew Stewart would be able to create the look she had been dreaming of; ‘something floaty and romantic that was also fitted’. That’s exactly what she found in ‘Hello Dolly’ – a beautifully simple but elegant strapless silk georgette gown with a structured bodice in ivory corded French artisanal lace and sweetheart neckline. She styled it with our Aphrodite Veil and our long sleeved Mary jacket, with a deep V at the back, in matching lace, which was perfectly appropriate for her winter wedding and church ceremony. This also gave her the option of two completely different looks as she removed her jacket for the evening’s festivities and let her hair down – literally!
Izzy was driven to the church in the same car her parents used when they married, and she entered the church to ‘Highland Cathedral’ played on the bagpipes by a close friend, as a nod to both Izzy and Ed’s Scottish origins. They were married by their childhood vicar and as they exited the church, they walked through a Guard of Honour from Ed’s regiment, saluting them through the crowd. They then moved onto Izzy’s family home for the reception, where she’s lived since she was just two years old and where both her sisters were married before her, which was covered in twinkly lights, wintery trees and beautiful flowers. They feasted on Ed’s favourite, Beef Wellington and a trio of puds: wedding cake, orange sorbet and hot chocolate with marshmallow – the ultimate winter indulgence.
They all danced the night away to ‘Fake Tan’, a band they had been introduced to at some of Ed’s Army events and as they left, Izzy’s mother had organised a ‘sparkling’ surprise send off for the happy couple, rounding off a special and unforgettable day.
